Mural
The Fountain Of Youth
Ezra A. Winter
American. 1886 - 1966
Main staircase from grand foyer to first mezzanine, Radio City Music Hall
This enormous mural sweeps up the staircase and overlooks spectacular grand foyer (a space created by the architect Edward Durrell Stone). One of the first commissions for the Music Hall, the mural depicts a legend from the Oregon Indians about the beginning of time when the world was new; here, Winter portrays an old man nearing the end of his life, confronted by his past ambition, pride and vanity. Winter was an excellent colorist and used deep rich reds, dark lush greens, and dreamlike golden tones.
